TEN: The Enthusiast Network Turns to Zuora to Monetize Its Motor Trend OnDemand Video Subscription Service

Zuora, Inc., the subscription commerce, billing and finance leader, today announced that TEN: The Enthusiast Network has deployed Zuora® technology to provide subscription-based commerce, billing, finance and analytics services for MOTOR TREND’s Motor Trend OnDemand, a premier stand-alone automotive subscription video on demand (SVOD)/over-the-top (OTT) destination.

According to Deloitte, video and audio will generate 89 percent of consumer Internet data traffic by 2018, yet most media companies currently have not figured out how to effectively present their offerings to subscribers and then measure and analyze usage across multiple platforms. TEN, the world’s premier transmedia network of enthusiast brands, such as MOTOR TREND and SURFER, has solved this challenge by deploying an end-to-end solution for Motor Trend OnDemand to monetize its subscription-based video service and build long-lasting relationships with subscribers.

“Our beta service did not provide all the billing and subscription management options our members wanted, and we immediately saw the need to expand our analytic capabilities,” said Scott Dickey, CEO of TEN: The Enthusiast Network. “With the Zuora platform, Motor Trend OnDemand can now effectively offer promotions across multiple channels based on user profiles to drive growth, as well as gain the insight we need into member activities so we can continue tailoring and improving our offerings, increase subscriber engagement, and reduce churn.”

Motor Trend OnDemand features a new and refreshed mobile app, 1,500-plus hours of updated live and original content, and new platform compatibilities including Apple TV. A subscription to Motor Trend OnDemand features unlimited streaming of auto and motorsport programming, including racing footage, episodic series, event coverage, historical archives, films, documentaries and television series.

With the Zuora platform in place, Motor Trend OnDemand has a more familiar video streaming interface, with content organized into sections—including “New,” “Watch Live,” “Motorsport,” and more—and then categories, such as “GT,” “Touring Cars,” and “Dirt Bikes” under “Motorsport.” This makes it far easier for members to find content that appeals to them. The content hub has also integrated in-app subscriptions across Apple, Android, and Roku devices and added support for gift subscriptions.

Zuora’s comprehensive solution for subscription management ensures that new digital businesses have the ability to manage subscriptions across multiple pricing and packaging schemes, track the appropriate subscriber metrics, analyze business performance, and gain insight into subscriber behavior. Further, established media businesses can rapidly adopt and innovate existing digital subscription models to encourage more loyal subscribers and create new revenue streams.

“The rapid shift to online video delivery creates a tremendous competitive opportunity for those companies able to align their services with the needs of their target audiences,” said Tien Tzuo, CEO of Zuora, Inc. “Motor Trend OnDemand is a terrific example of how the Zuora platform can help a well-established brand quickly transform its subscriber experience to increase subscriber engagement.”
