Interbrand and Zuora Join Forces to Help Global Brands Succeed in the Subscription Economy

February 13, 2019

Zuora, Inc. (NYSE: ZUO), the leading cloud-based subscription management platform provider, today announced it will partner with Interbrand – the global brand strategy consultancy of Omnicom Group Inc. – to help the world’s largest companies succeed in the Subscription Economy through joint business, brand and technology strategy.

Together, Zuora and Interbrand will help companies seeking to launch new subscription services. Interbrand can help them with positioning, narrative and message development. Similarly, for Interbrand clients who are shifting to digital services and need a monetization strategy, Zuora will help them automate and manage the entire subscription order-to-revenue process. By helping customers implement and communicate new pricing and packaging models, Zuora and Interbrand will enable them to gain insights into subscriber behavior, open new revenue streams, and disrupt markets to gain a competitive advantage.

“All companies shifting to the Subscription Economy require a value proposition that runs equally through their business, brand and technology strategies. We’re partnering with market leader Zuora to significantly impact how major companies bring subscription-based offerings into the brand experience,” said Interbrand CEO Charles Trevail.

Interbrand works with Global 1000 companies who are evaluating the potential impact of shifting to a subscription model. According to Interbrand’s Best Global Brands report, subscriptions and luxury are the top two growth drivers for companies today. The total value of the top 100 brands coming from subscription-based businesses has doubled since 2009. Identifying opportunities, whether new revenue streams or a radical transformation of the core business model, requires a mix of analytically-driven strategic analysis, brand-led product and service innovation, and brave creative expression.

“Industry after industry, businesses understand that subscriptions are the future of revenue growth,” said Zuora CEO and Founder Tien Tzuo. “However, in many companies, this requires rethinking everything. This includes business strategy, technology strategy, and even brand strategy because subscriptions are all about ongoing relationships with your customers. We’re excited to partner with Interbrand to bring our expertise to the largest global brands.”

Subscriptions are an untapped business opportunity for the world’s largest brands to build a long-term relationship with their consumers. According to the Subscription Economy Index™ (SEI), Zuora’s proprietary index that tracks the growth of the Subscription Economy, subscription revenue growth rates have continued to accelerate every year since 2012. Over the past ten years, Zuora has refined best practices and implementation methodologies, and built an ecosystem of technology and alliance partners to help its more than 1,000 customers across all industries and geographies shift to the subscription business model.

Interbrand will also join the Subscribed Institute, a think tank to help companies identify elements of strategy, process, systems, and culture that are critical to a company’s ability to transform from product to subscriber-centric.

“Having Interbrand join the Subscribed Institute will help those companies who are wrestling with some of the complexities of shifting to services. From creating new value propositions, evolving or reinventing their brand and identity, and designing meaningful customer experiences, a strategy leveraging experience and insights from Zuora and Interbrand is a winning combination” said Zuora VP of Customer Innovation and Subscribed Institute Chair Amy Konary.
