Zuora’s Subscribed Magazine Wins Prestigious 2016 Content Marketing Award

The inaugural issue of Subscribed Magazine has won the Best New Print Publication award in the Design category at this 2016 Content Marketing Awards. It was also a Finalist in the Editorial category. Presented by the Content Marketing Institute, the awards are the largest content marketing awards program in the world. A panel of all-star judges chose the “best of the best” in content marketing excellence from more than 1,300 entries.

“One of the things that really stood out this year was that marketers are truly starting to understand the approach of content marketing, and seeing real return on investment that is driving future marketing decisions. It’s easy to say that this was our best class ever.” says Joe Pulizzi, Founder, Content Marketing Institute.

Shaun Middlebusher, Creative Director of Subscribed Magazine and his team were the brains behind the magazine’s unique look and layout. “Our team is honored and delighted to receive this award. It was a dream of ours to take our content team’s custom crafted work and wrap it in an aesthetically saturating shell to delight our audience. We’re thrilled with the impression it’s made!” he says.

Launched last Fall, Subscribed Magazine is the only periodical dedicated to the Subscription Economy and covers a broad array of stories around the profound, systemic commercial shift that’s currently underway — perhaps the biggest economic transformation since the Industrial Revolution — from products to services, inventory to outcomes. “From the onset, we wanted Subscribed to be an informed and eclectic business magazine. The team conceived it as a cross between Fortune and Wired – a valuable, business magazine that’s fun to read and pleasing to the eyes” says Gabe Weisert, Executive Editor.

Middlebusher explains the thought process behind the magazine’s winning design – “We took the approach of attracting readers by complementing the visual style that attempts to merge a highly visual art mag with the content of a tech mag. The balance between big bold display typefaces, Baskerville pull quotes, and simple sans-serif body copy helped with creating a range of styles that fit the content well. Our hope was that imagery complemented by our wide range of whitespace and smaller body copy would allow the pages to breathe and invite readers to investigate content they were offered. We tossed in a few detailed pieces as attention grabbers, such as the infographic, but the majority of pages let your eyes revel in large color photography.”
